Summer Transportation Institute

The Summer Transportation Institute hosted by the Leech Lake Tribal College concluded on Friday with an intimate ceremony in the Benny Tonce room celebrating the students who made it through the program, who committed such a huge chunk for their summer in order to be exposed to new career options or solidify the career choices that they already were mindful of.  At the ceremony the students presented on their favored transportation topic and enjoyed a delicious lunch of fresh Red Lake walleye, warm bannock, wild rice and other delicious eats.  During the program this very high energy, middle school group kept us on our feet as we bounced from one activity to another.

Sweet Grass

We had a great turnout last week for our sweet grass basket class, lots of new faces from local folks to Summer vacationers! Everyone was able to finish their basket and had a little history lesson about sweet grass as well.

Here we have the Hains family (3 generations!) who decided to take the class as a  family activity.

The class was taught by a local artisan  Bonita Desjarlais
